Four Glimpses

The movements in Four Glimpses are bound together by a sort of idée fixe. A two-chord progression finds its way into each of the movements, largely unchanged from its first appearance. I chose the word ‘glimpse’, because of the fleeting nature of the chords – they are but a brief apparition of 19th-century harmony in the midst of a primarily atonal soundworld.
